In Western Australia, every piece of electrical work should come with an Electrical Safety Certificate. If your Perth electrician isn't providing one, that's a sign something is wrong.
What the Certificate Covers
An Electrical Safety Certificate (often called a Notice of Completion and Compliance) confirms that licensed electrical work has been tested and meets WA standards. Western Power requires one for many jobs, and your electrician must give you a copy.
When You Need One
- New circuits, switchboard upgrades and rewiring
- Adding power points or hardwired appliances
- Selling or renting a property where recent electrical work was done
RCDs Are the Law
WA regulations require at least two RCDs (safety switches) on a property before it's sold or rented. A good Perth electrician will check this as part of any inspection and flag it before it becomes a problem at settlement.
Always Use a Licensed Electrician
Only an electrician licensed by Building and Energy can legally carry out and certify the work. Ask for their licence number, and keep the safety certificate with your property records — you may need it when you sell.
