How Stump Grinding Works

A stump grinder is a machine with a rotating cutting wheel that grinds the stump and surface roots down below ground level — typically 200–300mm below the surface. The process produces wood chips (mulch) that can be left in the hole as fill or removed. The hole is then backfilled with the chips or topsoil and can be turfed over once the chips decompose (usually 3–6 months).

What Happens to the Roots?

Access Requirements
